Theft Offenses

Theft exacts an enormous financial toll in the United States each year. As a consequence, it is not at all surprising that individuals and institutions affected by theft clamor for the attention of the judicial system in seeking redress for their losses. A person convicted of or even charged with theft may well face devastating personal setbacks such as loss of employment or loss of future employment opportunities.

Unfortunately, given the pressure the crime of theft places on the legal system, an individual often is charged with theft when that charge is not warranted. For example, a person may mistakenly acquire possession of the property of another, but be charged with theft nonetheless. As a second example, a person may fail to honor a contractual obligation, such as a movie rental agreement, and find him or herself facing theft charges. It may be necessary to hire an experienced criminal defense attorney such as Steven R. Adams to avoid an unwarranted theft conviction when circumstances such as these arise.

Even when the elements of theft are met and the charge is a viable one, often an accomplished criminal defense attorney such as Steven Adams can present mitigating evidence in support of a lesser charge and/or a reduced sentence. Furthermore, Steve Adams may also be able to qualify a person charged with theft for a Diversion Program. Should this Diversion Program be completed by the suspect, the theft offense will be dismissed.
