STEVEN ADAMS: When an officer is investigating you for a potential DUI, you have to make sure that you do not answer his questions about where you have been and what, if anything, you have been drinking. There’s excessive fines, there’s court costs, there’s license suspensions, there’s vehicle immobilizations, there’s mandatory minimum jail time, even for a first-time offender.
If you have been pulled over, you should give the officer your license, registration and proof of insurance. And if the officer asks you to get out of the car, get out of the car. But other than that, remain silent and ask for an attorney.
DUI is the only crime in America that is a crime of opinion. It’s merely speculation and that doesn’t arise to proof beyond a reasonable doubt. And I think that the preparation that I put into these cases separates me from my colleagues. We are litigious and we want to get a satisfactory outcome for you. STEVEN ADAMS: Police are after what’s in their best interests or what’s in the government’s best interest. They’re not after what’s in your particular best interest. An attorney that you call, our office, we will be working in your best interest. Our goal is to protect you against arbitrary government power.
The ultimate power the government has is to have its police agents question you. The police officer’s approach in interrogating a suspect is highly manipulative and deceptive. Their goal is to obtain a confession. Their goal is not to help out the suspect. Police know about this because they engage in psychological coercion in order to obtain a confession.
If you’re confronted by a police officer at your door, or by a telephone call, you should not talk to the police until you have called an attorney. Call us; we will help you out.
